Steve Bing had been struggling with suicidal thoughts for a year and had even turned to a "white witch" for help before he leaped to his death in June last year, according to a new report.

The film financier and philanthropist had also been struggling with addiction in his final days, a friend speaking with The Sun under anonymity revealed.

"He'd sort of fallen into a depression. I read somewhere that he was sober the last couple of months before he died but he wasn't. His colleagues were calling him and saying, 'You have to stop this, you can't do this anymore,'" she said. "He also had other people who he was talking to — there was a woman — I don't know what her name was — but she was a Wiccan, a white witch."

Bing's friend explained that he hoped the woman could help him "in some way." The Wiccan had spoken to him several times on the phone but Bing's friend said it seemed as if she was more interested in his money. "I really don't know if she was doing spells or anything like that," she said. "I didn't hear anything, but when anybody says Wiccan and witchcraft, I think they must be doing something."

Bing died on June 22 at age 55 after jumping off the 27th floor of a luxury apartment building in Los Angeles, Deadline reported at the time.

He was meant to have dinner with his friend that evening, but at around 1 p.m. he plunged to his death. His friend said when she received the call, she was shocked but not surprised.

"He had spoken to me about ending his life before. He would tell me, 'I've been thinking that I really don't need to be here anymore,'" she said. "'I really think that there's nothing left for me in the world to do, there's nothing left for me to pursue.'"

Bing's friend said that he never spoke of a plan but would often bring the topic up, especially in the last six months of his life. His friend said Bing promised not to act on his suicidal thoughts, but in the end it was all too much for him.

"There were so many things I would've liked to talk to him about," she said. "I just didn't get the chance."
