Staten Island’s “ninja burglar,” accused of staging a long string of break-ins, was finally apprehended and appeared in court Wednesday after pleading guilty to a similar crime in Connecticut.

Robert H. Costanzo, 46, has been linked to more than 100 burglaries, including 19 on Staten Island in 2007 and 2008, The New York Daily News reported.

The Staten Island crimes gained widespread attention after a Dongan Hills man said he battled a nunchuck-wielding intruder. While the story drew skepticism, the “ninja burglar” moniker stuck.

Costanzo pleaded guilty on Tuesday in Hartfor to a 2014 burglary in Farmington, Connecticut, the Hartford Courant reported. He was then immediately turned over to New York City police, and is expected to be charged separately in connection with his alleged Staten Island crimes.

In New York, the investigation of the burglaries was for a time closed after the deportation of Albanian and Macedonian citizens in 2008, but investigators later determined they weren’t involved in the break-ins.

In Connecticut, Costanzo admitted to stealing $75,000 worth of jewelry from a Farmington home in 2014 after waking a 66-year-old woman and ordering her at knifepoint to open a safe while her husband slept. ell phone records and DNA were used to link Costanzo to the crime. He was arrested in June 2015.

Prosecutor David Zagaja said Costanzo told detectives about similar crimes in New York and New Jersey.

Richmond County District Attorney Michael E. McMahon tweeted about the case on Tuesday.

Costanzo is a level 3 sex offender, charged with raping a grandmother at knifepoint in 1989 and convicted of sexual battery in Florida in 1996, WABC-TV reported.
