State Fair Foods: Tried Bacon Cannolis or Fried Pickles n' Chocolate?

The Minnesota State Fair unveiled Wednesday its list of new food offerings that will be available at the event next month, including deep-fried bread pudding, grilled doughnuts, and bacon cannolis.

The highly anticipated food lineup is a staple at the fair, and some vendors try for years to make it in. Each entrant must draft a proposal and every single dish has to be approved by a committee. This year, 47 new foods made it through.

"[The committee] wanted to know everything from the equipment to the menu and the prices we're going to charge, to the employee code of conduct," Pat Mancini, whose restaurant submitted three dishes, told CBS Minnesota.

Dennis Larson, the State Fair license administrator manager, offered some advice to the 476 vendors who are still on the fair's wait list.

"Try to wow us, show us products you've had in the past, what products you've got, what you're experience is," he said. "Minnesota is not the place you want to start with 1.8 million people."

The Minnesota State Fair will run August 22 through September 2 in St. Paul.
