10 Stars Who've Talked Openly About Their Conservative Values

By    |   Friday, 16 January 2015 03:29 PM

Hollywood is known for being full of liberals, from the obnoxious Gwyneth Paltrow to the eloquent George Clooney, but it's got its share of conservatives too.

A lot of conservative celebs keep a low profile for fear that their careers will suffer for their political views, however. Other stars that lean to the left of the political spectrum have expressed viewpoints that are inherently conservative — sometimes wittingly, sometimes not.

Below is a list of quotes from famous people who've put themselves in the crosshairs by going on-record with conservative takes on culture, religion, the economy, and more.

1. Denzel Washington —"I read from the Bible every day, and I read my Daily Word. I read something great yesterday. It said, 'Don't aspire to make a living. Aspire to make a difference.'"

2. Pat Sajak — "Being a conservative in Hollywood is like walking into a shooting range with a bull's-eye attached to your body. There are more of us than you would believe, but if you want to keep working, you feel like you have to keep quiet."

3. Vince Vaughn— "As you get older, you just get less trust in the government running anything."

4. Stacey Dash — "The school system has become a part of this huge government machine, governed by people who aren’t close to the situation. That’s why I’m a Republican. I believe in small government."

5. Phil Robertson — "I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other."

6. Patricia Heaton — "You know, my older sister is a Dominican nun, and nuns are always portrayed as weird, sexually repressed, old maids who are bitter. Listen, I went to Catholic school, there are a few of those, but the Dominican sisters that I know are lovely, lovely ladies. So I think there has been this idea out there and the media kind of runs with it, portrays Christians as bad guys."

7. Andrea Bocelli — "It is not Christian to go against someone. I am in favor of life. And, of course, personally I do not share the idea of being able to interrupt life arbitrarily. But I cannot be the judge of those who decide in a different way. As much as I can, I show them an example and act as a role model, because I believe this is the only way."

8. Jon Voight — "My greatest heartache is that we sacrificed thousands of American heroes liberating Iraq, only for President Obama to pull out all troops, leaving Iraq now to be taken over by the terrorists. What does he say about that? Nothing."

9. Carrie Underwood — "Every Wednesday, my husband and I have a study group with our friends. I attend church. We try to devote time in the morning, say a prayer."

10. Angela Bassett — "When you realize that every breath is a gift from God. When you realize how small you are, but how much he loved you. That he, Jesus, would die, the son of God himself on earth, then you . . . you just weep."
