Stanford has recorded nearly 200 sexual abuse cases taking place on campus within a 12-month period, Newsweek reported.

A report released by Stanford University noted a total of 190 cases recorded in the 2016-2017 school year that involved students, staff and faculty.

Among those numbers, 29 were allegations of rape of which 11 led to formal investigations.

The report also highlighted 30 formal investigations of sexual harassment, 20 of which were found to violate school policy, and an additional 33 reports of sexual harassment involving students that led to formal investigations.

Of the recorded cases, nearly 60 of them included allegations of sexual harassment involving mostly academic staff and had occurred either in the workplace or academic setting, The Mercury News reported.

Newsweek added that there were 20 additional reports of stalking, 14 reports of unwanted touching and 12 incidents involving violence in relationships.

In a letter accompanying the report, Stanford University’s Provost Persis Drell said the statistics showed that prohibited sexual conduct was occurring throughout the Stanford community.

"I believe the actual numbers of incidents of wrongful sexual conduct are probably larger than are being reported to us," she said, adding that the community needed to band together to put an end to the situation.

"In recent months, there has been a moment of reckoning across our country and around the world – bringing to light new stories every day and reminding us of the deep impacts of sexual harassment and violence on the lives of countless people in our world," she said.

"This movement further underscores that at Stanford, we must confront these issues as community issues, not simply as student issues; we must confront them as our issues, not someone else’s issues."
