Squirrel Visits Family 8 Years After Rescue

By    |   Wednesday, 13 Dec 2017 09:13 AM

A squirrel's repeat visits to the South Carolina family that took care of her eight years ago after being recused from an owl attack made for a heart-warming story on social media, WYFF-TV reported.

Bella was badly injured in October 2009, but found still alive by a wildlife rescue group, the television station stated. Since Bella was too young to survive her injuries in the wild, the group placed her with Brantley Harrison and his Greenville County family, which help rehabilitate rescued animals.

Bella was raised with fellow squirrels – Larry, Moe, and Curly – until she was healed up and all four were released into the wild in the spring of 2010, the television station noted. While the squirrels stopped returning for treats after two weeks, Bella appeared that she could not leave the family that nursed her back to health, per WYFF-TV.

"Bella sits right at the front door waiting for someone to notice she has come by for a visit," Harrison told WYFF-TV. "She has even resorted to jumping over to the dining room window to peer in for someone to see her.

"She comes almost daily for a little loving, treats, and to torment our dog, Cid, through the glass door," Harrison added.

Bella's story was shared on the animal website The Dodo and the family has created an Instagram account to follow her adventures with the Harrisons.

"Her personality was not any different than any other squirrel I have ever raised while she was in my care," Harrison told The Dodo. "The main objective is to return them all back into the wild so I never treated her like a pet. She acted no different than the others."

Bella has continued her visits to the Harrison home ever since, creating a bond with the family members. The squirrel appears to enjoy being around people, sitting on the lap of those around her and gleefully accepting nuts, Harrison told The Dodo.

Some spread the story of Bella on social media.
