Spotify's parental leave policy, which affords employees at the music streaming service's Stockholm office up to six months of fully paid maternity or paternity leave, has now been extended to all full-time company employees worldwide.

The new policy will benefit employees at Spotify's London, Paris, New York City, and Sydney, Australia, offices, Fast Company reported.

"Spotify is growing up fast and the team’s responsibilities at home and at work are growing with us," Katarina Berg, chief human resources officer, wrote in a company blog post. "With this in mind, today we're introducing a new, global, parental leave policy, developed to support all of our staff with families, wherever they are in the world."

The six months of paid parental leave may be taken anytime up to a child's third birthday and covers birth, adoption, and surrogacy, according to a Spotify press release.

Along with the six-month leave, Spotify will also offer a one-month "Welcome Back" program, allowing employees to work from home on a part-time schedule with flexible hours, Berg said.

"This policy best defines who we are as a company, born out of a Swedish culture that places an emphasis on a healthy work/family balance, gender equality, and the ability for every parent to spend quality time with the people that matter most in their lives," she concluded.

The new measure is sure to help Spotify employees in the United States, especially, where there is no mandatory paid parental leave policy.

"The fact that the U.S. is the only developed country without a paid leave policy doesn't make sense," White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett said during the announcement at Spotify's New York offices this week, according to The Huffington Post. "We really want to have a culture in our country were you can be a working parent and be productive at work."
