Music streaming service Spotify removed several white supremacist “hate” bands from its service and has more under review following the Charlottesville rally and violence last weekend.

The move came after Digital Music News featured a story Monday called "I Just Found 37 White Supremacist Hate Bands on Spotify." Spotify responded to the story by saying it takes action as soon as the presence of a hateful or violent group on their site comes to their attention.

The bands Blood Red Eagle, Freikorps, Skinfull, and Skull Head are some that have been removed or are under review, Salon reported. Some of the bands being removed were identified by the Southern Poverty Law Center as being associated with hate groups back in 2014, Salon noted.

Spotify is the world’s largest streaming service with more than 60 million subscribers and 30 million songs.

“Illegal content or material that favors hatred or incites violence against race, religion, sexuality or the like is not tolerated by us,” Spotify said, BuzzFeed reported.

Although free speech is guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution, companies such as Spotify, GoDaddy, and Facebook that have decided to remove content linked to white nationalism and supremacy are well within their rights to do so, Salon noted. The right to free speech only covers restrictions by government entities, not private businesses.

Twitter users responded to Spotify's decision to pull the hate bands' music.
