Slender Man Stabbing Victim's Condition 'Improving' Each and Every Day

The parents of the 12-year-old victim stabbed 19 times by her friends on Saturday to placate fictional Internet character "Slender Man" reported that she "is a fighter and is improving each and every day."

"We appreciate your patience, love, and support, as we too are stunned and saddened by this tragedy," they told reporters at NBC News on Thursday. They were also happy to report that her condition was upgraded from critical to fair.

Family spokeswoman Dana Hoffmann told People magazine that supporters have started a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe.com for the girl, whose identity is being kept anonymous at the request of her parents. The campaign had raised nearly $30,000 from 680 donors as of Friday morning.

"It's real early to say how long it will take her to get over this situation," Hoffmann said. "It's a long-term healing process from a physical as well as mental and emotional standpoint of being so young and being betrayed by your two best friends."

Identified by her initials "PL" in court documents, the pre-teen from the Milwaukee suburb of Waukesha was reportedly lured into the woods by her two friends, also 12 years old, after attending a slumber party.

The suspects, Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier, were taken into custody and charged as adults with first-degree homicide.

In talking about the stabbing, the pair used lingo that matched online stories written about an obscure fictional character named Slender Man, which got its start on a website called Creepy Pasta. They said they were trying to please Slender Man by perpetrating the "cracker" or stabbing in hopes that he would invite them to his mansion in the woods.

The victim was left to die after the stabbing, but managed to crawl out of the woods and get the attention of a bypasser, who called 911. The details of that call were recently released, and reporters praised the man for comforting the girl while he called for help.

The Daily Mail spoke with Anissa Weier's older brother on Tuesday, and he told the publication that clearly his sister's fantasies of Slender Man had gotten out of control and that she could no longer distinguish that it was a myth.

"This was out of character for my sister. I just wish she had enough common sense to tell the difference between what is real and what isn't," he said.
