A size zero woman who got liposuction is now defending her decision against critics.

Makeup blogger Megan O’Brien was bluntly open about her decision, which has inspired some criticism, in a blog for Harper’s Bizarre.

She faced the criticism head-on. Referring to the article’s title, “I’m a Size Zero and I Got Liposuction,” she said, “Reading the title of this makes me instantly dislike the author. Me. I sound self-obsessed, superficial, and vapid. I know I'm none of those things, which is why I'm sharing my story. Because as ironic as it sounds, I am actually comfortable in my own skin.”

O’Brien said that even after working out religiously and eating healthy foods, she retained the body type she’s always had: “My body type isn't apple or pear, it's spider: I have spindly, long chicken legs and arms and a really round stomach. I buy my clothes in a size zero, but I can't wear anything that's tight in the middle.”

People regularly congratulated her on her pregnancy.

"I've had this stomach forever," O’Brien told People magazine. "When I quit smoking, that's when it got out of control. I was only eating chicken and salads, and going to the gym five days a week with a personal trainer for an hour a day, and I looked really good — except for my stomach."

Finally, O’Brien said in Harper’s Bazaar that she consulted a plastic surgeon, Dr. Marc Muni, who said her shape was genetic. After sending her away to work out, with no results, he agreed to do the surgery.

“Most people keep their plastic surgery a secret. Not me. I announced it on Facebook and made a YouTube video about it,” O’Brien wrote. “I am in the beauty industry and have always believed in full transparency.”

Many went on the Bazaar website to praise O’Brien for her “candor” and her humor.

“Megan, you look terrific! Your article has made me think twice about plastic surgery. If I had your doctor and the money I would definitely be in to see him,” one woman wrote.
