SiriusXM satellite radio announced that The Beatles Channel will debut May 18, offering Beatles music and other Beatles-related programming around the clock, not eight but seven days a week.
The channel was brought to life by The Beatles and Apple Corps Ltd., and will feature original Beatles music, music inspired by The Beatles, and Beatles-related shows and specials like “Breakfast With the Beatles,” hosted by Chris Carter, the Los Angeles Times reported.
“I still remember the thrill of when we first heard our music on the radio,” Paul McCartney said in a statement, the L.A. Times reported. “But I don’t think any of us would have imagined that we’d have our very own Beatles radio channel more than 50 years later.”
Ringo Starr said, “Now you can listen to the Beatles, ‘Any Time at All,’” Rolling Stone reported.
Other musicians with Sirius XM dedicated channels include Elvis Presley, the Grateful Dead, and Garth Brooks. Many other Sirius channels are programmed around the sound of certain artists but are not dedicated to those artists specifically, the L.A. Times reported.
The Beatles channel will be available for non-subscribers to preview until the end of May. On May 26, the band is releasing a 50th anniversary edition of “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” with the deluxe versions of that album including previously unreleased material from the recording sessions, Rolling Stone reported.
Some on Twitter were thrilled about the channel, while others pointed to the size of their existing Beatles playlist.
