A shipwrecked couple were rescued from a desert island after rescue teams spotted their massive "Help" sign scrawled in the sand, Inside Edition reported.
The unnamed Australian couple ended up marooned on a remote island after they encountered a storm during a fishing trip last week.
According to the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), the pair had anchored their boat near the island and were taking shelter from the storm when they were washed overboard on Tuesday.
"As the tide came in, they were anchored in one meter of water when about 1 a.m. a freak storm hit and 'a couple of huge five-meter waves' slammed them into the rocks," RACQ CQ Rescue said on Facebook.
Fortunately, they were able to make it to shore with some food, water and a few essential items, the Daily Mercury said.
The couple spent the night camped on the island before RACQ CQ Rescue picked up on their emergency beacon and set out to search for the couple on Wednesday morning.
"Our crew found the very relieved couple waving from the beach and could clearly see where they had written 'HELP' in huge letters in the sand," said RACQ CQ Rescue.
Quentin Rethus, a rescue team member, said per the Daily Star that they were near the area where the couple had been stranded and had fortunately spotted their distress call in the sand.
A rescue helicopter hovered just off the ground while an RACQ CQ Rescue crewman helped the man and woman walk to the island's airstrip, where the aircraft landed, the Daily Mercury noted.
The couple, who had sustained a few minor bruises, were airlifted to safety.
