Shia LaBeouf's 'Ellen' Apology: I'm Sorry for Spitting on Cop

Shia LeBeouf apologized on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" Friday for his recent antics, saying he's sorry for spitting on a cop a few months back and getting himself locked up in jail.

LeBeouf, who co-stars opposite Brad Pitt in the upcoming war movie "Fury," told DeGeneres he "went through, like, an existential crisis. Which turned into some kinda like exploration, really. I had some hiccups, you know, some judgment errors."

LaBeouf's bizarre behavior started earlier this year at the premiere of his film "Nymphomaniac" in Germany, where he walked the red carpet with a brown paper bag over his head that read: "I am not famous anymore." The actor pulled another paper bag stunt a few weeks later with another bag that read, "#IAMSORRY," in what he later described as a performance art piece.

According to Us Weekly, the apology referenced on the bag referred to the plagiarism scandal that surrounded one of LaBeouf's projects last year. His short film "HowardCantour.com" was reportedly ripped from graphic artist Daniel Clowes' comic, "Justin M. Damiano," line for line.

"I got in this [entertainment] industry because I had this void," the actor told DeGeneres. "I'm a kid of abandonment and I thought somehow being a good actor would fill that void. I think we [all] suffer from the same thing, which is just a lack of attention and love."

In September, LaBeouf entered a guilty plea to disorderly conduct after disrupting a performance of "Cabaret" over the summer, a stunt that briefly landed him in jail after he spit on a cop, according to Entertainment Tonight. His publicist told ET that his actions were the result of an alcohol abuse problem which has "gotten help" for.

LeBeouf described his time in jail as "scary," as the event forced him to take a look at his current state in life.

"I really went all the way with it," LaBeouf told DeGeneres. "They put a Hannibal mask on me and a led jacket. It was very scary. I'm sorry if you're watching, dude. I'm sorry. That was crazy, man."
