Shalane Flanagan said she felt "very American" while shooting a Michelob commercial that will air during Sunday’s Super Bowl game.

The first American woman to win the New York City Marathon in 40 years, Flanagan told USA Today Sports she does like beer and celebrates big races with "a burger and a beer," despite most runners being "obsessed" with what they eat.

"Being able to vote is a very American feeling," Flanagan told USA Today when asked about when she's felt most American. "Representing my country in the Olympics was obviously a very American moment. And honestly, being part of a Super Bowl commercial feels very American to me."

The commercial features actor Chris Pratt engaging in different sports while singing “I Like Beer,” while several athletes at the top of their sport participate (and sing) with him.

The ad was meant to show that beer can be part of a healthy, active lifestyle in moderation, Runner's World reported.

Flanagan said Pratt was not used to running, although he was very fit. “I was teasing him about how much he was sweating during the shoot,” she told USA Today.

Flanagan is rooting for the New England Patriots in the big game this year, since she grew up near Boston in Marblehead, Massachusetts.

She told Runner’s World that she has had several unexpected opportunities because of her newfound fame. “It’s a huge honor to have that kind of attention,” she said.

Flanagan also is training for the Boston Marathon, which hasn’t been won by a woman in 30 years.
