Former WWE wrestler Shad Gaspard is missing after swimming in "hazardous surf" with his son at Venice Beach on Sunday. Lifeguards were called out to an emergency ocean rescue and allegedly made contact with two victims who were later identified by Shad's wife.

During the rescue, lifeguards were able to pull a 10-year-old boy to safety but the older male went under and could not be found, a source from the Los Angeles County Fire Department Lifeguard Division told the New York Daily News Monday morning.

"The primary factor yesterday was the hazardous surf, with waves at four to six feet," the insider said. "We had strong lateral and strong rip currents through the entire Venice area. Our lifeguards were making hundreds of rescues."

Los Angeles police said Shad was swimming 50 yards from the shore when a wave "crashed over" him and "he was swept out to sea," reported CNN. The 39-year-old's wife took to social media in a desperate attempt to find her husband.

"If you've seen him please call 911 or Dm family," she said on her Instagram account.

"Last seen wearing swim shorts," she wrote in another post. "If you have seen Shad, please message me."

The Los Angeles County Fire called the search off at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday and said it would resume efforts the following day.

The U.S. Coast Guard, Los Angeles County lifeguards, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department are all looking for the swimmer, sheriff's department spokesperson Trina Schrader said, CNN noted.

"Weather permitting, we'll look for him in the air," Schrader added. "We're using all resources to try to recover him as soon as possible."
