Serena Williams appears nude and very pregnant on the cover of Vanity Fair, and an accompanying story posted online Tuesday talks all about baby daddy Alexis Ohanian.
Williams, 35, was the world's top tennis player when she discovered on the eve of the Australian Open that she was eight weeks pregnant with finance Ohanian, 34, Reddit’s co-founder. She went on to win the major, her 23rd of the career.
USA Today said the Williams's cover story photos, which were shot by Annie Leibovitz, were similar to the magazine's pregnant photos of actress Demi Moore for its 1991 cover.
In the Vanity Fair story, Williams promises to return to professional tennis by January because "I don't think my story is over yet."
Williams talked about her relationship with Ohanian, the decision to play in the Australian Open despite finding out she was pregnant, and the birth of her child.
"It just doesn't seem real," Williams said in the article. "I don't know why. Am I having a baby? If you would have told me last year in October or November that I would have a baby, not be pregnant but have a baby, I would have thought you were the biggest liar in the world.”
"This is kind of how I am right now. This is happening sooner than later, and it's going by so fast."
Williams friend Diondria Thortnon told Vanity Fair that Williams "loves being pregnant," but then there is the competitive side of her.
"I can also see competition creeping in on her. Is this over yet? I think she's getting this itch . . . to see her intensity and her workout — 'I have to stay fit. I have to get back on the court.' Very determined to get back on the court."
Williams found support for the cover shoot on social media.
