Former NFL quarterback Scott Mitchell is on "The Biggest Loser" this season, and he’ll be tackling weight loss from a starting weight of 366 pounds.

Mitchell, who spent 12 seasons in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins, the Detroit Lions, and others, is featured on the “Biggest Loser” website.

“His biggest motivation for going on the show was seeing his dad die of obesity-related causes early this year and knowing he could be headed down the same path if he doesn't change his life,” the website said of Mitchell’s reason for doing the show.

At 46 and overweight, Mitchell has sleep apnea and high blood pressure. His weight has been a problem since his mid-30s as he stayed busy with five children, ages 11 to 21, and slipped into poor eating habits.

Mitchell is joined on the show by another former NFL player, Damien Woody. Woody played football for 12 years and was a two-time Super Bowl champ with the New England Patriots.

He says he's been overweight for as long as he can remember, and though he weighed more than 300 pounds when he graduated from high school, his size was always an asset as a football player,” the “Biggest Loser” website says. “Since retiring from football in 2010, less activity and the passing of his mother and grandfather in the past three years all contributed to additional weight gain.”

Woody decided to join the 16th season of “Biggest Loser” to regain his health, and he doesn’t want to be another statistic among former NFL players who are “gone too soon due to weight-related issues,” the website said.

Fans offered their support for the weight-loss goals of Mitchell and Woody online, at least one with an eye to making a little money.
