Saudi Arabia has issued a WW3 warning to Iran amid soaring tensions in the Middle East, London’s The Express reported following an emergency meeting of the Arab League held in Cairo on Sunday.

Saudi foreign minister Adel al-Jubeir said, “We will not stand idly by in the face of Iran’s aggression.”

The statement was made at the Cairo meeting where the foreign minister claimed “no Arab capital is safe from Iran’s aggression.”

The comments came after Yemeni rebels fire a ballistic missile at an airport in Saudi Arabia’s capital earlier this month.

According to CNN, the missile was intercepted over northeast Riyadh but Yemen's Defense Ministry said the attack, which "shook the Saudi capital,” was successful.

Days later, Saudi Arabia charged the incident was an “act of war” by Iran, The New York Times reported.

“We see this as an act of war,” al-Jubeir said, per the Times. “Iran cannot lob missiles at Saudi cities and towns and expect us not to take steps.”

On Sunday, the Saudi foreign minister said leniency toward Iran would “not leave any Arab capital safe from those ballistic missiles,” adding that he would not “stand idly by in the face of Iran’s aggression,” The Express reported.

Not long after al-Jubeir’s remark, the Arab League responded with a statement noting it would not declare war on Iran “at this stage,” The Daily Star reported.

“We have not taken a decision to ask the Security Council to meet, but we are just briefing the council and maybe the next stage would be for us to meet and call for a Security Council meeting and submit a draft Arab resolution against Iran.”
