Sarah Palin mocked New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg Friday during her speech at the National Rifle Association's convention in Houston by waving a tin of chewing tobacco around to poke fun at the mayor's newest public health crusade.

The former Republican vice presidential nominee was making a point about "left-wingers" trying to legislate the people's freedoms, and referenced her famous sip of a Big Gulp at March's CPAC convention.

"Take New York City, the mayor there, still bitterly clinging to the notion that government must control the people and all aspects of life, trying to ban the Big Gulp. Now I see that the mayor of New York wants to ban public displays of legal tobacco products," Palin said before pulling out a tin of chewing tobacco. "I tell ya, don't make me do it."

Bloomberg has been criticized for his oversize soda ban and proposed ban on public displays of tobacco products, with some complaining that he's trying to turn New York into a "nanny state."

The legislation would require stores to keep tobacco products in cabinets, drawers, under the counter, behind a curtain, or in other concealed spots. They could only be visible when an adult is making a purchase or during restocking.

Palin's chewing tobacco stunt drew mixed reviews from Twitter users.
