The newly released trailer for Russell Crowe’s “Noah” movie showcases epic battle scenes and stupendous visual effects in this retelling of the Bible’s flood story, but it's short on animals for the ark.
Crowe, playing Noah, confronts Methuselah’s army and, as the
Los Angeles Times mentions, looks "a bit like the buff Maximus in 'Gladiator'" as he protects his boat.

The trailer, which is oddly short on the animals that usually take a place of prime importance in the ark story,
doesn’t have the “heavy religious overtones,” Slate wrote, unlike a trailer that leaked out in October. That trailer was pulled, although it made the internet rounds.
Apparently writer-director Darren Aronofsky has been battling Paramount to tone down the religious aspect of the movie; the movie company, Slate said, would probably like to pull in the vast Christian audience that saw “The Passion of the Christ.”
In 2012, as Hollywood talked about the movie, the
Christian Post reported that a Christian screenwriter who saw the script wrote that as Noah was portrayed, he was “kind of rural shaman, and vegan hippy-like gatherer of herbs” and even referred to him as an “environmentalist wacko.”
The official trailer didn’t focus on religion, unlike the leaked trailer, which opened with a quote from Genesis, Slate said.
Comments about the movie and the trailer on various websites strayed into religious territory and the accuracy of telling the Biblical story. Some, though, preferred to avoid such a potentially controversial discussion.
Wrote one man on the YouTube trailer, “Russell Crowe is a great actor. Therefore, I don't mind watching and enjoying a great film without tainting it with all these believer /non believer opinions. That being said I'm looking forward to this movie which [by the way] has a great cast.”
And many on Twitter thought the action-packed, emotional trailer boded well for the March 2014 release.
