Comedian Roseanne Barr said in an interview that she is going blind because of an eye condition but smoking marijuana has helped relieve the pressure from the disease.
Barr, who won Golden Globe and Emmy Awards for her primetime sitcom "Roseanne" that ran from 1988 to 1997, called marijuana "good medicine" and said it helped her relieve herself from "mind control,"
according to The Daily Beast.
"I have macular degeneration and glaucoma, so it's good for me for that because I have pressure in my eyes," said Barr. "It's a good medicine for a lot of things."
Barr told The Daily Beast that her father suffered from glaucoma as well and while doctors have not given her a timetable of when or if she will be totally blind, she is more appreciative of having sight.
"My vision is closing in now," said Barr. "It's something weird. But there are other weird things. That one's harsh, 'cause I read a lot, and then I thought, 'Well, I guess I could hire somebody to read for me and read to me.' But I like words and I like looking. You do what you have to do. I just try and enjoy vision as much as possible – y'know, living it up."
Barr traveled to New York recently for the Tribeca Film Festival to promote her documentary "Roseanne for President,"
according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film documents Barr's effort to win the Green Party's nomination for president before falling short.
"While 'Roseanne' may have revolutionized the way Americans talked about family, class, race, gender and gay rights, this campaign trail adventure is a personal account of Roseanne's thoughts on these subjects — and others, as we have never heard them before," said Deborah Rudolph on the
Tribeca website. Michael Moore, Sandra Bernhard and Rosie O’Donnell also appear in the documentary.
Barr told The Daily Beast that she was not a fan of Hillary Clinton and her campaign to become president.
"She seems like every other Democrat," said Barr. "I would not like to see her win. … I don't see how she can win, but it will be interesting to see how the process goes."
