Roger Stone claimed on social media on Tuesday that Fox News host Sean Hannity wanted President Donald Trump's chief of staff job, resulting in a Twitter spat between the two.

Stone, a long time Trump adviser, Republican strategist, and author of the book "The Making of the President 2016: How Donald Trump Orchestrated a Revolution," charged that Hannity and former Fox News co-president Bill Shine conspired to keep him off the cable news network.

Shine, a 20-year Fox News veteran, resigned Monday in what appeared to be continued fallout from the sexual harassment scandal that has rocked the network and led to the departures of former news head Roger Ailes and high-profile host Bill O'Reilly, according to The Washington Post.

Hannity went to Twitter three times to respond, denying he ever sought Trump's chief of staff job.

Trump ultimately picked Reince Priebus, then the chairman of the Republican National Committee, as chief of staff, while naming Steve Bannon, another favorite for the position, his senior counselor and chief West Wing strategist, said The New York Times.

Hannity told staff members on Tuesday he was staying at Fox News and that speculation he would leave the network after Shine departed was not true, reported Politico.
