Roger Ailes' Obama-Is-Lazy Charge Answered by Van Jones on CNN

Democrat firebrand Van Jones went on a CNN panel on Wednesday to fire back at Fox News Roger Ailes' biographical branding of President Barack Obama as "lazy" and Vice President Joe Biden "as dumb as an ashtray.”

In "Roger Ailes: Off Camera" by Zev Chafets, the Fox News chief takes aim at the president and vice president and Newt Gingrich, who he referred to as a "sore loser." Chafets quoted Ailes saying Obama "never worked a day in his life" and "never earned a penny that wasn’t public money,” criticizing the president for playing golf and basketball so often while having to deal with important issues.

“He’s lazy, but the media won’t report that,” Ailes told the biographer.

Van Jones, who had to be dropped from Obama's first administration as the president's "green jobs czar" over a 9/11 truther controversy, took issue Ailes' barbs, calling his "lazy" tag for Obama “disgusting” and possibly a “racial charge.”

“This is the kind of stuff that is really disgusting at the end of the day," Jones said. "First of all, Barack Obama’s hair is white. He looks like the black Santa Claus who shaved his beard off. You don’t go looking from Tiger Woods to Morgan Freeman in three years if you’re not working hard. There’s a racial charge that some people find offensive."

Jones implied that he believes Ailes employs a racial double-standard because “Nobody calls [House Speaker John] Boehner lazy” despite him playing more golf than the president, according to Mediaite.

“This is the kind of stuff that really brings back into the mud,” Jones said.

Republican consultant Ana Navarro defended Ailes on the show.

“I think you’re dealing with somebody who is unfiltered, refreshingly politically incorrect to be in politics. I think it’s going to be an interesting book,” Navarro said.

CNN Host Wolf Blitzer followed suit.

“He does say I’m a good journalist,” Blitzer said, thanking the Fox chief.

Chafets’ book is one of two new biographies on Ailes. The second is the upcoming “The Loudest Voice in the Room: Fox News and the Making of America,” by New York Magazine writer Gabriel Sherman.

The New York Times reported that Ailes is writing an autobiography, but there is no release date yet.
