Robert Durst is due in court Monday to face the Susan Berman murder charge for which he has stood accused since being arrested in 2015.

The 75-year-old real estate millionaire heir was charged with one count of first-degree murder after Berman, a crime writer and longtime friend, was shot in the head in her Beverly Hills home in 2000, CNN reported.

Her death came shortly before she was scheduled to speak to investigators about the 1982 disappearance of Robert Durst's first wife, Kathleen Durst, who is now presumed dead.

Robert Durst has maintained his innocence, insisting he had nothing to do with his wife's disappearance nor Berman's death, but the case of his wife's disappearance has been an ongoing investigation.

Authorities were preparing to fly visit Berman in California, who may have had information regarding the disappearance of Kathleen Durst, when she was killed.

According to the New York Post, Robert Durst was in California at the time Berman was killed and, while they could not link him to the murder, there has been a cloud of suspicion surrounding him.

This was exasperated after Durst was tried for the 2001 killing and dismembering of his neighbor, Morris Black, but he was later acquitted after lawyers argued that Durst acted in self-defense, NBC News reported.

The cases formed part of the HBO documentary series "The Jinx" which raised alarm bells in 2015 when it captured Robert Durst blurting out that he "killed them all" into a microphone which he thought was turned off.

He was accused of killing Berman and, upon his arrest, police recovered a .38 caliber revolver, CNN said.

Robert Durst was scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing in the Los Angeles Airport Courthouse.
