Rob Konrad, Ex-NFL Star, Swims 9 Miles to Shore After Falling Off Boat

Rob Konrad, the ex-NFL star who played for the Miami Dolphins, reportedly swam nine miles to shore this week after falling off a fishing boat near Palm Beach, Florida.

The Syracuse Post-Standard reported that Konrad emerged from the water in Palm Beach around 4:40 a.m. Thursday with symptoms of hypothermia, according to U.S. Coast Guard spokesman Mark Barney. Friends had called the Coast Guard earlier to report Konrad missing after he failed to return from a fishing trip.

Konrad told authorities that he was fishing Wednesday when he fell off his idling boat. The 38-year-old was alone on the 36-foot vessel, according to the Sun-Sentinel, and tried to climb back aboard but was unable to.

Konrad played for the Dolphins from 1999 to 2004 after participating on the Syracuse University football team for four years. He now operates a financial consulting business in his Boynton Beach hometown.

The incident brought back memories of the 2009 boating accident in which multiple NFL football players died when their boat overturned.
