Rob Gronkowski's house in Massachusetts was robbed while the New England Patriots star tight end was in Minneapolis for Sunday’s Super Bowl, where his team lost to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The burglary was discovered Monday about 6 p.m., but Foxboro Police Chief William Baker declined to say what was taken from the multi-million dollar five-bedroom home, the Boston Herald reported.

"We're not going to be releasing any information right now about what was stolen or whether any suspects exist," Baker told reporters, per the Herald, "But there is an active investigation under way and we hope to comment more on this case when we bring somebody to justice for having committed this burglary."

The Boston Globe reported that, according to a police dispatch recording, "multiple safes and possible guns" may have been taken from the residence.

"I don't know if you ever been the victim of a break-in, but when you are robbed and there is an intrusion into your personal space, it's unpleasant whether you are Rob Gronkowski or Bill Baker," the police chief said, per the Globe. "For him it's a double whammy coming off the loss."

Gronkowski caught a team-leading nine passes from quarterback Tom Brady for 116 yards and two second-half touchdowns in leading the Patriots back from an early deficit against the Eagles before falling short Sunday in Super Bowl LII.

According to the dispatch recording, a person identified as the "homeowner" called police at 6:18 p.m. to report a burglary at Congdon Circle, the Globe said. Two Foxboro police officers responded to the scene where the homeowner told them when he returned home from a trip he discovered the home had been burglarized and items missing.

"We've got an idea of what was stolen at this point," Baker said, per the Globe. "The burglars know what they took and we know what they took, and we are going to play that close to the vest while the investigation is going on."

Gronkowski, 28, hinted at possible retirement from football after the Super Bowl. He had recovered from a concussion in the AFC championship game against the Jacksonville Jaguars just in time to play on Sunday.
