From football to acting? Rob Gronkowski, the New England Patriots' star tight end, is reportedly considering retiring from professional football to pursue an acting career and has not committed to returning to finish his contract with the Patriots next year.

Gronkowski was noncommittal during his postgame meeting with reporters after the Patriots lost the Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles 41-33. When asked about whether the game would be his last as an NFL player, Gronkowski said, “I don’t know how you heard that, but I mean I’m definitely gonna look at my future for sure. Sit down the next couple weeks and see where I’m at.”

The tight end has battled several injuries during his eight-year career in the NFL including four arm surgeries in 2013, a torn ACL and MCL, and going through concussion protocol following a hit from Jacksonville Jaguars safety Barry Church in the AFC Championship game.

Gronkowski has told friends his injuries “have taken a toll on him,” the Eagle-Tribune reported.

Hollywood superstars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Sylvester Stallone have told Gronkowski they think he could be a huge action movie star, the newspaper also said.

Gronkowski’s contract with the Patriots does not have an opt-out clause, and the star is slated to make nearly $9 million next year with incentives. He is the fourth-highest paid Patriot after Tom Brady, Stephon Gilmore, and Devin McCourty, even though he was voted the top tight end in football.

Gronkowski has appeared as himself in the TV series “Family Guy” and the movie “Entourage” and has starred in several commercials.

Twitter users debated his acting ability and what kinds of roles he would get.
