Rio officials reportedly lost the keys to the Olympic Stadium, adding another embarrassing gaffe as the troubled Games started and leading up to Friday's official opening ceremony.

One gets the feeling this is not going to be like Beijing 2008 or even London 2012.

Firemen used bolt cutters on Wednesday to get into the stadium after organizers were unable to access the mixed area of the venue, Yahoo! Sports reported.

It happened before a soccer match between Sweden and South Africa, which was scheduled ahead of the opening ceremony, the Washington Post noted.

BBC reporter Julia Carneiro posted a video on Twitter on Wednesday showing officials cutting their way into the east gate of the stadium.

Spectators were lined up for two hours before being moved to another gate, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported.

The games have been struggling with issues ranging from plumbing and electrical problems, concerns about Zika virus and a fire in one of the village apartment buildings.

Brazilian officials have tightened security in the city known for violent street crime ahead of the games, CBC said.

"Ultimately, the stadium-key gaffe did not appear to be a major setback for organizers of the Games, but it was emblematic of the problems Brazil has had in preparing to host the massive event," the Post noted.

Many Twitter users seemed amused by the blunder.
