Richard Lussi's family acknowledged his dying wish by including two of his favorite cheesesteaks with him in his coffin. But no onions, he said, “because they'll come back to haunt me."

According to CTV News, the 76-year-old father of four had always joked that he wanted to be buried with two sandwiches from his favorite shop, Pat's King of Steaks.

Richard Lussi may very well have been one of the biggest fans of the sandwich store and his request made perfect sense to his family.

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, Lussi often challenged his adult children and grandchildren to drive two and a half hours from their home in Plains Township, Luzerne County, to Pat’s King of Steaks in Philadelphia, to pick up cheesesteaks.

They often relented and accepted the challenge.

"We hear that there's other cheesesteak places in Philly but we haven't seen them," his son, John Lussi said, per CTV News.

When Richard Lussi was asked what he wanted to take with him when he died, he didn’t miss a beat in answering “Pat's cheesesteak!”

His grandson, Dominic Lussi, added per ABC News, that the request included “no onions because they'll come back to haunt me."

Richard Lussi passed away on Oct. 10., and, the day before his funeral, his son, grandson and two friends drove to Pat’s King of Steaks to pick up cheesesteaks, which they took back to put in the coffin.

“We were just going to get one but my pop always said ‘If you’re going to Pat’s you always get two, you never order just one. It’s a waste of time,'” Dominic Lussi said, per The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The store’s owner, Frank Olivieri Jr., said via Fox News that he found the gesture flattering and somewhat bewildering, noting that perhaps it was “a bribe for St Peter.”
