R&B entertainer R. Kelly addressed the recent news that his 13-year-old child came out as transgender — by saying he won't address it.
“You don’t really want to open it up by saying my daughter is becoming my son,”
Kelly said during an appearance on WGCI-FM radio in Chicago.

Jay Kelly, born Jaya, came out as transgender on social media. His Instagram profile identifies him as "transguy."
“Don’t even give the blogs that kind of credit,” Kelly told the radio station in response blogs and media covering his child. “But as far as that's concerned, always believe what you see — with your own eyes that is. That's the best way to go about this business. I've heard a lot of things about a lot of people, and it was never true."
Regarding the child’s identity, he said, “You gotta know there’s a back story. There’s a background. That’s why you can’t judge nobody.”
He also said he likes to keep his family affairs private.
"I don't address that, though," he told the radio station. "That's the thing. Why do you think I've been here for 27 years and still relevant? Because I don't address s— that's dumb. I just don't do it."
InTouch magazine reported that Jay came out on his Instagram page and has identified as male since age 6 or 7. He said his mother and sister have been very supportive, and he hopes to undergo surgery to transition from female to male.
“(My mom) was like, ‘Baby, you know I love you if you were bi, gay, you name it and I would still love you so much,’” Jay wrote on his Ask.fm page, according to InTouch. “She was very proud of me, I was like, ‘Thank you mum for accepting the fact that I’m a transgender.’And same with my sister, she told me that she was proud of me, and respects me by calling me handsome and calling me her little brother now, and I love her for that, so you know it was great for me.”
