A python devoured a deer outclassing it in weight and ended up setting a record for the largest python-to-prey ratio documented to date, USA Today noted.

The 11-foot Burmese python, weighing 31.5 pounds, managed to scoff down an entire white-tailed deer fawn weighing 35 pounds, in Collier Seminole State Park in Collier County Florida.

The incredible site was stumbled upon by a group of wildlife biologists from the Conservancy of Southwest Florida and land managers from the state park in 2015 and the finding is now set to be published in the Herpetological Review.

The Conservancy of Southwest Florida presented its observation to the public on Thursday.

According to their report, the python was captured and moved to an open area where it began regurgitating the fawn, WDSU said.

A photo capturing the moment shows the pythons mouth stretched wide open.

"That is not cut open," said biologist Ian Bartoszek, according to ABC News. "That's the actual skin and the mouth (of the snake)."

Bartoszek said the findings "almost did not compute," according to USA Today.

"We were sitting there just trying to process that an animal this size could get its head around what turned out to be a deer. It's surreal to see that in the field."

The discovery has highlighted key concerns about the Burmese python's impact on its environment.

The reptile is not native to South Florida but has managed to adapt and survive in its surroundings, ABC News reported.

Bartoszek said the python was "wreaking havoc" on the wildlife by preying on white-tailed deer, which is the primary food source for the federally protected Florida panther.

"We know that they'll take adult deer now and then," he said about the Burmese python, according to USA Today. "If they're tapping into young deer, then that just makes me a little bit worried that there will be additional impacts that we haven't even considered yet."
