Pulse Nightclub is set to be purchased by Orlando to be turned into a memorial for the victims of what’s being called the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer’s office confirmed the $2.25 million purchase on Tuesday in an email to The Huffington Post. The deal faces a Nov. 14 vote by the City Council.

They mayor said there’s no plans as of right now to make any changes to the site.

“We do know that we want to maintain it for a period of time – 12 to 18 months – so that people from around the country and world who want to visit the site can do so,” the mayor said in a video post on Twitter.

Dyer said that the city’s ultimate goal for the site is to "create something to honor the memory of the victims that are deceased [and] those that were injured, and a testament to the resilience of our community."

Since June, when Omar Mateen opened fire in the nightclub leaving 49 dead and 53 wounded, the downtown site has been a “makeshift memorial” for people to visit, The Post noted.

“This location is now a permanent part of Orlando’s history. It’s the site of the most tragic event that has ever occurred in the city of Orlando,” Dyer said in a statement, per CNN. “We want our entire community to be a part of this site. With the city owning the property, we can engage in a public process to determine the future of the Pulse property and building.

911 tapes from the night of the shooting were recently released, giving way to the gunman’s motive; angered by the U.S. airstrikes in Syria and Iraq, according to police transcripts.
