Princeton University was evacuated Tuesday morning after someone phoned in a bomb threat, officials said.

A threat was reportedly received around 9 a.m. Tuesday and included multiple, unspecified buildings on the school's New Jersey campus.

"There has been a bomb threat to multiple unspecified campus buildings. Please evacuate the campus and all University offices immediately and go home unless otherwise directed by your supervisor," read an email alert to the university community. "Public Safety officers and Princeton Police will direct drivers leaving the campus and those without cars will be directed to evacuation sites. You will receive an update later today. Do not return to campus for any reason until advised otherwise."

Princeton High School has been closed, highway traffic into Princeton is currently shut down, and public safety officers are stationed throughout the town, Princeton police told NJ.com.

The university's spring semester concluded with its commencement ceremony last week, so most of the school's 5,000 undergraduates, 2,500 graduate students, and 1,100 faculty members have left for summer break.

This is the second bomb threat that has caused a New Jersey university to evacuate its campus in recent weeks.

On May 30, a former Seton Hall University student made a threat online that briefly shut down the South Orange campus while police searched for an explosive. Nothing was found, but the student was later charged with third degree terrorist threats.
