A woman recovering from injuries she sustained in the Boston Marathon bombings
didn't know she was pregnant until after the hospital gave her a pregnancy test, according to an article by The Boston Globe.
Caroline Reinsch, 39, and boyfriend Christian Williams, 42, were standing on the sidelines watching the race when the first bomb exploded on Boylston Street on April 15. Her thigh was split open; his legs and right hand were ripped up. They were rushed to two different hospitals.

"I could have lost my legs, my hand, my life, or even worse, the life of someone I love," Williams, who has gone through three rounds of surgeries so far, wrote in a Facebook post on April 21. "But I did not. Few men are given a chance in life to see how lucky they are. That moment has come and I can see. I am one of the luckiest men alive."
Before Reinsch was wheeled in for an X-ray, the technician asked her if there was a chance she could be pregnant. The couple had been trying to conceive since the fall so she said, "Possibly. But probably not."
She didn’t know it at the time, but the
hospital administered a pregnancy test anyway, according to the Boston Globe.
It wasn’t until she was being discharged that she received the results of that test — a "slight positive."
Reinsch then took a home test, which confirmed the news: She was pregnant.
At the time, Williams was still recovering at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. Reinsch brought him the positive stick and broke the news.
"Any pain or suffering I felt has been replaced with joy," Williams told the Globe. "Discovering that I was going to be a father is how I'll always remember the Marathon."
The couple waited until Father's Day to reveal the pregnancy news.
"They wanted it to be a surprise, a gift to their families from amid the horror and suffering of April 15," the Globe said.
