Portia de Rossi said this week she was "very nervous" appearing the first time as a couple with comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres during the 2005 Golden Globe awards.

De Rossi, 40, made the comments in an interview with the crew of "Arrested Development" Thursday during an appearance of Bravo's "Inside the Actors Studio" with host James Lipton.

Lipton asked the actress, who has starred in Netflix's "Arrested Development" with Emmy winner Jason Bateman, to share the story of when she first came out as a lesbian.

"I think when I really, truly came out was the Golden Globes when 'Arrested Development' was nominated," de Rossi said in the interview. "Ellen and I had been together for a month and I was very, very nervous going to that because I knew that I was going to meet up with her after the show ... and that there was press."

Born Mandy Rogers in Australia, she has also appeared in "Ally McBeal" (1998-2002), "Nip/Tuck" (2007-09) and "Better Off Ted" (2009-10). She made her movie debut in the 1994 motion picture "Sirens."

De Rossi had a short marriage to a sound engineer and dated Italian singer and movie director Francesca Gregorini before becoming involved with DeGeneres. The couple was married in Los Angeles in 2008.

"Arrested Development" gained a rebirth through Netflix in 2013 where the show received several Emmy nominations. The show developed a cult following from 2003-2006 on Fox.

The series features the wealthy Bluths family whose life spins out of control when family patriarch George Bluth Sr., played by Jeffrey Tambor, is arrested. Michael Bluth, acted by Bateman, is the voice of reason around the comedic craziness that includes Tony Hale, de Rossi, David Cross, Michael Cera, and Will Arnett.
