A manager at Pizza Hut in Elkhart, Ind., says he was fired for refusing to open on Thanksgiving.

Tony Rohr confronted his bosses when told the pizza restaurant must remain open on the national holiday.

"Thanksgiving and Christmas are the only two days that they're closed in the whole year and they're the only two days that those people [his employees] are guaranteed to have off and spend it with their families," Rohr told CBS affiliate WSBT.

Reportedly told to resign, Rohr instead wrote an angry letter.

"I am not quitting. I do not resign, however I accept that the refusal to comply with this greedy, immoral request means the end of my tenure with this company," Rohr wrote, according to WSBT. "I hope you realize that it's the people at the bottom of the totem pole that make your life possible."

The company was besieged with negative comments on its Facebook page.

"Firing a manager for sticking up his subordinates???" posted Aeryn Sun. "You have lost another customer, and will never see another one of my family members in your establishments."

Deborah Rose wrote: "Wow, reading about the heavy handed decision to stay open on Thanksgiving Day for a few more bucks' profit, and to fire the manager who advocated for treating your employees with respect. I started going to Pizza Hut in the 1960s. I won't be going back."

Most of the comments call the pizza chain "greedy" and take shots at the quality of the product.

Many retailers, such as Wal-Mart, Target, Macy's, and Staples, are open for Thanksgiving this year, as Black Friday bleeds over into a holiday traditionally reserved for spending the day at home with family or friends.

Still, some established stores are bucking that trend. Nordstrom, Dillard's, Home Depot, Costco, BJs, T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and Ross stores won't be open on Thanksgiving.
