A Phoenix dust storm resulted in an accident that closed down Interstate 8 on Tuesday, following a half-inch or more of monsoon rain on Monday that left widespread power outages, the Arizona Republic reported.

The wall of dust blew through the Phoenix area and across both Interstate 8 and Interstate 10, closing the former for two hours after a rollover crash involving a semi, the Republic stated.

The wall of dust was followed by heavy rains in the area.

"We don't have a huge line of storms that's gonna roll through the entire Valley" like what happened Monday evening, said KTVK-TV chief meteorologist Royal Norman. "These are gonna be more of the pop-up type storms that we see in the monsoon."

Many on social media took the storm in stride.

KTAR Radio reported the National Weather Service in Phoenix issued a dust advisory for parts of Maricopa and Pinal counties in south central and southeastern Arizona until 5:45 p.m. Tuesday and then a flash flood warning for parts of Maricopa and Gila counties in east and south-central Arizona until 7:30 p.m.

On Monday, many parts of the Phoenix area had at least a half-inch of rain or more, with the area just south of downtown Phoenix receiving the highest rainfall total at 1.34 inches, KTAR said, and power outages affected more than 70,000 residents.
