Paula Deen almost spoiled Tracy's Morgan's elaborately planned surprise appearance on the Emmys this weekend when she ran into him at a hotel.
Morgan has made few appearances since being involved in a major highway accident in 2014, but Emmys producers took pains to get him on the show, including keeping his planned appearance a secret from even Fox executives,
E! Online reported.
Deen, who's currently appearing on "Dancing with the Stars," ran into Morgan on Sunday morning in the lobby of The Four Seasons hotel in Los Angeles. She was so happy to see her friend that she snapped a photo to commemorate the occasion.
Luckily, Morgan's publicists were on top of the situation and stopped her from posting it online. Instead, Deen waited until Monday before posting it to Twitter.
Deen told E! after the show, "I was so happy to run into Tracy. He is another sweet man. And I can tell, knowing him before the accident, that is has put him in a very humble position. He values his life and his wife's life and his daughter's life so much. It was just wonderful to see that he is doing so well."
Morgan received a standing ovation when he walked onto the Emmy stage to present the award for Outstanding Drama Series, and he gave an emotional speech about his return to Hollywood.
“I miss you guys so much,”
Entertainment Weekly quoted the actor. “Last year, Jimmy Kimmel stood on this stage and said, ‘We’ll see you back here next year, Tracy Morgan.’ Well, Jimmy, thanks to my amazing doctors and the support of my family and my beautiful new wife, I’m here.”
