Paul Giamatti Totes Golden Globe Award Into In-N-Out

By    |   Tuesday, 09 January 2024 01:12 PM EST

Actor Paul Giamatti was seen celebrating his Golden Globe win at one of Los Angeles' most famous fast-food joints.

After receiving an award for best actor in a comedy or musical for his role in "The Holdovers," he went to the Westwood In-N-Out in Los Angeles for dinner, according to a tweet by actor Michael Warburton on Monday.

In a photo accompanied in the tweet, Giamatti, 56, is seen still dressed in his tuxedo, seated in the restaurant with his Golden Globe award on the table.

"PAUL GIAMATTI keeping it real post his Golden Globes win last night, at the Westwood In-N-Out in L.A.," Warburton wrote.

In his role in "The Holdovers," Giamatti plays Paul Hunham, a discontented history teacher stuck at a remote prep school during the holidays alongside a troubled student (Dominic Sessa). Giamatti's character suffers from trimethylaminuria, a rare genetic condition also called Fish Odor Syndrome because of the unpleasant smell it generates.

After receiving his Golden Globe award, Giamatti gave a heartfelt speech dedicated to teachers.

"Surely this is the first time this award has been given to an actor who has played a man who smells like fish," he quipped, referring to his character, according to People.

After thanking fans and peers, he said, "I want to give a shout-out to my son Samuel, who recently graduated from college. And it's a movie about a teacher. I play a teacher in it. My whole family, they're teachers. All of them, going back generations.

"Teachers are good people. Gotta respect them. They do a good thing. It's a tough job, so this is for teachers as well. Thanks, guys. Thank you."

Last month, Giamatti talked about playing Hunham in an interview with People, saying the character's condition "makes him more marginalized because the kids make fun of him about it." He added that the character was "a strict but well-meaning guy."
