Patti LaBelle's brand of sweet potato pies have been flying off the shelves after one of her fans posted a humorous video review to Facebook and YouTube on Thursday.
According to Fox News, Walmart has sold about $1 million worth of Patti’s Pie since the video was posted, and
NPR reported that some pies have been going for as much as $40 apiece on resale markets like eBay and Craigslist.
LaBelle teamed up with Walmart to create the pies, and they first hit shelves in September. They have the singer's face on the box, and retail for $3.48.
Apparently, sales were "just OK" when the line of pies initially came out, according to NPR, however that changed dramatically over the weekend.
Patti LaBelle superfan James Wright posted a fun video review of the pie on Thursday, and the clip soon went viral, garnering more than 10 million views across multiple Internet platforms.
"Ooh it's so pretty, look at that," he says in the video, holding up one of the pies and breaking into song. "I want to taste Patti. Ooh Patti's so moist — come on Patti!"
"You'll turn into Patti after eating this," he concludes before launching into some of LaBelle's most classic hits.
Walmart said it is striving to keep up with demand for the pies, with a rep
telling Yahoo News, "We need about 2 million pounds of California Sweet Potatoes!"
LaBelle posted about Wright's review on her social media profiles, and even called him to thank him for complimenting her pie.
