NMX: Job Creators Alliance Co-Founder Park: Romney's Business Record Important

Voters should take into account the candidates’ business records when deciding whom to choose for president say David Park, co-founder of The Job Creators Alliance and CEO of Austin Capital.

“Clearly, there is a division of people who would rather go after likeability or relate-ability more so than credibility and the types of tenure that a person has when you look at a resume,” he told John Bachman of Newsmax.TV at the Republican convention in Tampa.

“When I look at a person’s resume to hire someone, yes I look at whether they are likeable or not, but I definitely want to see what they have done in the past, what education they have and that is not what is happening here during this particular election cycle.”

President Barack Obama doesn’t pass this test, based on his comments showing a lack of respect for entrepreneurs, Park says. Obama said last month that they owe their success partly to assistance from the government. “You didn’t build that,” he stated.

“When he attacks job creators and that somehow after 20 years of me building my organization, 17 hours sometimes a day, six day a week that I didn’t build it, but somebody else in particular the government did. I think that really is a very personal hit to me,” Park said.

“To me that is something that is very insulting and believe me over the years I’ve been insulted a lot. This is one of the most personal things I’ve had to actually endure, listening to our President actually say that somehow I did not build that.”

Meanwhile, Park feels comfortable with Mitt Romney’s background. That includes “not only turning around companies, but turning around any organization like the Olympics,” Park said. “That really does give you a good amount of comfort that he understands private business.”

That’s what Romney has done for most of his career. “To be able to take that and translate that into being the president of the United States I think is a very great lateral move for the country,” Park said.

“I will tell you, as an individual who did something very similar throughout my career, it is very translatable. Most CEOs go through the hardship and the heartaches of deficits, trying to balance your financial statement, making sure you are profitable. All the little things are very much a skill set that can translate to running a government. And that is exactly what we need in this country today.”

A major problem for Obama is that he has never worked in a business, Park says. “I find that politicians who have never worked in the private center or actually started a company of their own have absolutely no empathy for what small businesses actually go through, absolutely none,” Park said.

“So when they make these types of comments like Obama did, you really do feel as though that there is a teaching moment. . . . He doesn’t have any empathy. I think that’s what the President is really missing here.”
