A Carolina Panthers fan was arrested and charged with simple assault after an altercation at Bank of America Stadium that left another spectator bloodied during Thursday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

A man wearing a Cam Newton jersey threw several punches at a man seated behind him, following an argument, The Charlotte Observer reported.

The assailant was recorded on cameraphone punching the other man; the video then went viral after the fan posted it to his social media.

The injured man, 62, was treated at the stadium for minor injuries, The Charlotte Observer reported. In the original Instagram post of the video, the user noted the victim also was wearing Panthers apparel.

The man who posted the video of the fight on social media, Warren Carrigan, said in a Facebook post that the injured man "took offense to the couple never sitting down and obstructing his view."

Lance Emory, the Panthers' executive director of risk management, said in a statement that a video of the altercation was reviewed and the perpetrator was identified.

"We are working with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department to pursue charges to the fullest extent of the law," he said in the statement. "The Carolina Panthers are committed to a fan-friendly and family-friendly stadium experience," Emory said in the statement. "The behavior exhibited by the perpetrator is unacceptable and will not be condoned at Bank of America Stadium."

On Friday afternoon, the CMPD announced on Twitter they arrested the suspect, Kyle Adam Maraghy, on simple assault charges related to the altercation.

Twitter users shared outrage at the video.
