Palazzo di Amore Is Most Expensive Home for Sale in US: $195 Million

The Palazzo di Amore in Los Angeles is now the most expensive home for sale in America with a whopping price tag of $195 million, according to Forbes.

The home, with its Mediterranean style designed by architect Bob Ray Offenhauser, is owned by real estate investor Jeff Greene.

The 35,000-square-foot main home of Palazzo di Amore is set on 25 acres near LA, and took Greene more than seven years to build. It also includes a 15,000-square-foot entertainment center and a guest home, for a total of 12 bedrooms, and 23 bathrooms on the estate.

Greene had previously told Forbes that he wasn’t quite sure why he committed to such a long project after he bought the unfinished home for $35 million out of a bankruptcy proceeding.

“I have no logical explanation for why we spent the next seven-and-a-half years building this house,” Greene told Forbes. “But that’s the world of building very detailed custom homes.”

The Los Angeles Times said the estate’s garages can hold 27 cars, and there’s on-site parking for another 150. Palazzo di Amore also has its own wine label, Beverly Hills Vineyards, and, of course, wine cellars that can store 13,000 bottles.

The estate even has its own private label, Beverly Hills Vineyards, which produces 400 to 500 cases a year. One wine cellar can store 3,000 bottles; a second about 10,000 bottles and additional barrels.

Greene told Forbes he’s just ready to move on to different things.

"I’m a control freak, and that’s why these projects aren’t good for me," he told the business publication. “It’s just too many years, too long. But hopefully the buyer will come along who will appreciate the fruits of our labor.”
