Stephen Paddock may have targeted Lollapalooza in Chicago, some are speculating, after a report surfaced that he booked a hotel room this past summer overlooking the sprawling annual music festival in Grant Park.

TMZ reported that Paddock, the suspect in the mass shooting in Las Vegas on Sunday that killed nearly 60 people, booked two rooms in the Blackstone Hotel, across the street from the popular downtown Chicago park where Lollapalooza is held annually. Police are looking into the reports, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Grant Park is where President Barack Obama held his victory rallies after the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections, drawing more than 200,000 people each time.

TMZ wrote that Paddock, who had asked for a room with a view, would have had a bird's-eye view of all of the Lollapalooza stages and main entrance from the 20th floor. The TMZ story did not quote a source and said Paddock never checked into the hotel.

The initial TMZ story said Paddock booked one room for Aug. 1, two days before Lollapalooza kicked off and then booked a second room, both with checkout dates of Aug. 6, when the festival ended.

The Chicago Police Department said in a statement posted on Twitter it was aware of the TMZ reports.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Joseph Lombardo told reporters Wednesday that Paddock rented several rooms through Airbnb at The Ogden Hotel in downtown Las Vegas corresponding with the "Life is Beautiful" music festival Sept. 22-24, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Paddock fired on a crowd of about 22,000 at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, about eight miles down the Las Vegas strip from The Ogden on Sunday, sending concertgoers running for their lives during the mass shooting spree. Along with the dead, the incident injured about 500 people.

In updated information Thursday, law enforcement told CNN that Paddock had 23 different weapons inside his Mandalay Bay hotel suite, along with 50 pounds of explosives and 1,600 rounds of ammunition in his car parked in the hotel's parking lot.
