You don't usually see camels wandering around Oregon, but that's what happened Sunday before sheriff's deputies in Deschutes County were able to return the wandering camel to its owner, who had taken the animal along on a visit to a friend.

The deputies responded to a report of a camel wandering around a field near Sisters, Oregon, and were able to capture the camel on video as it waslked past one of their police cars.

With help of someone nearby who had experience with the animal, they were able to halter it, and the owner, who had been looking for the camel, came shortly afterward to retrieve it, The Oregonian reported

Sgt. William Bailey said the camel's owner lives near Bend, Oregon, and brought the camel along to visit a friend who lived near Sisters, about 20 miles away, the newspaper reported.

“He untied himself and went on a walkabout,” Bailey said, The Oregonian reported. “A neighbor down the street saw him in a pasture and called it in.

Sisters is located in a desert region of Central Oregon. The camel, whose name is Bubbles, has been kept by the owner for the town’s annual Christmas parade, Fox News reported.

In the dashcam video, which has gone viral on the internet, the Bactrian camel (which has two humps) walked by very close the deputies’ patrol car, which made them laugh.

Although it would seem like the deputies must have seen everything after the incident, they were quick to point out they don’t like to say that.

“We never say that because we always end up being wrong,” the sheriff’s office said, the Idaho Statesman reported.

Twitter enjoyed the unusual story.
