The organization One Million Moms is calling ABC's new "Muppets Show" "perverted," claiming that the new sitcom is far from its family-oriented "Sesame Street" origins.
The group alleges that, even though the show is being billed as an "adult Muppets show," ABC's real target is children.
"The mature version of 'The Muppets' will cover a range of topics from
sex to drugs," a One Million Moms statement said. "Miss Piggy came out as a pro-choice feminist during an MSNBC interview. The puppet characters loved by kids in the 1970s and 1980s and beyond are now weighing in on interspecies relationships and promiscuity."
"ABC hopes children watch the show and predict they would enjoy some of the humor, but 1MM would disagree," the statement continued. "It is not the show it once was. ABC has ruined 'The Muppets' . . . Many parents unknowingly will let their children watch an episode only to find out its perverted nature too late, unless they are alerted ahead of time."
The group complained about the promotional video that eventually went viral with 3.2 million views on Facebook.

"Parents will have to explain to confused children that the program they once were allowed to watch is no longer a nice show," the One Million Moms statement said. "This would have been completely unnecessary if ABC had made the program follow its original family-friendly design."
Heidi Stevens of the Chicago Tribune, though, said that One Million Moms jumped the gun and complained about the show before it even aired.
"Family-friendly is awfully subjective," Stevens wrote. "A pro-choice feminist is not, to my mind, vile. Nor are stuffed animals who don't wear pants. My son's Willie the Wildcat toy joins us for many a bedtime story and my son has never tried to leave the house without pants on."
"But I understand and respect that each family gets to shape and live out its own value system, and mine doesn't need to match my neighbors' or my colleagues' or, obviously, the One Million Moms."
