‘Ocho’ Reasons Why Hispanics Should Dump Obama

It is very likely that the Hispanic vote will help decide the presidential race between President Barack Obama and GOP challenger Mitt Romney.

President Obama famously said, “I want you to hold our government accountable. I want you to hold me accountable.” It’s time that Hispanic voters do just that.

Hispanics are participating in conservative party activities in greater numbers thanks in part to the work the Republican National Hispanic Assembly (RNHA), which I had the privilege of helping bring to life in the 1970s so that Hispanics would no longer be taken for granted by Democrats. At the time, the RNHA helped deliver 27 percent of the Hispanic vote to the GOP.

Hispanics now have political clout due to our numbers and our economic power. We can demand attention to our conservative values, our immigration concerns, and our determination to achieve equality through diversity and inclusion. Are you aware that racial attitudes in the U.S. have not improved in the four years since we elected our first black president? That is exactly what an Associated Press report revealed in recent days.

Obama does not deserve to be re-elected solely because of his record and the fact that the Hispanic community would be adversely impacted by the president’s policies, and their devastating effect on small businesses and entrepreneurs. If he does get re-elected, we must demand that his policies — which affect our community — change drastically.

Ocho, or eight in Spanish, was my favorite number as a college athlete. While there are many more reasons, here are ocho reasons why Hispanics should now dump President Obama on Election Day.
  1. Obama has failed to support Hispanic and minority businesses with his policies and abusive regulations.
  2. Obama has restricted Hispanic business participation in government contracting, a $600 billion marketplace.
  3. Obama was caught “cooking” government statistics related to contracting for small and minority-owned businesses.
  4. Obama has excluded $64 billion in annual contracts from the small business reservation while in office.
  5. Obama failed to enforce P.L. 95-507 to allow Hispanic and disadvantaged businesses to receive “maximum practicable utilization” (MPU) in government contracting.
  6. Obama has restricted economic growth and job creation for all small businesses.
  7. Obama is opposing GOP-sponsored legislation — already approved by the House — that would increase set-aside government contracts for Hispanic businesses from 23 percent to a minimum of 25 percent.
  8. Obama failed to practice diversity and inclusion in his administration. The lack of Hispanic appointments in his administration is a total shame.
Hispanics must change our own destiny. Promises by political candidates do not count; only records do. Let’s hold President Obama accountable as he asked us to do.
