In a city that prides itself on its restrictive gun laws, 25 individuals were shot over a 48-hour period in New York City over the weekend, resulting in six fatalities and one severely wounded 11-year-old girl who doctors say will never walk again.

Of the five boroughs of New York City, only Staten Island saw no gun violence over the weekend, with 12 individuals being shot in Brooklyn, eight in the Bronx, four in Queens and one in Manhattan, the New York Daily News reported.

The shootings involved gang bangers, apparent robbery attempts, heated arguments and other motives that have yet to be determined according to the New York City Police Department.

The shootings began late Friday before spreading into the early morning hours of Saturday.

One of the first victims was 24-year-old Terrance Davis of the Bronx, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds and later succumbed to his wounds.

Hours later, Antonio Wilson, 23, and Damion Riley, 39, both of Brooklyn, were killed early Saturday morning, with each receiving multiple gunshots.

On Sunday, 21-year-old Ivan Martinez was killed from a single headshot wound at 3:25 a.m. in the Bronx. The gunman was reportedly accompanied by a woman at the time of the shooting, no further details were reported.

In the second Sunday fatality, a middle-aged man in his 40s was shot to death during an argument in Manhattan's East Harlem neighborhood in broad daylight at approximately 1:20 p.m.

Within four hours, the third fatal shooting occurred in the Crown Heights area of Brooklyn, where 25-year-old Damien Powell, 25, was shot in the chest outside a housing projects unit.

In addition to the deaths reported above, 11-year-old Tayloni "Tutu" Mazyck was hit by a stray bullet while sitting outside her Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn apartment building. She is now paralyzed.

The 11-year-old girl had been shot accidently by a gang member who was reportedly aiming at someone else in her vicinity. The slug traveled through her neck and lodged in her spine, the Daily News reports.

"She can’t feel her legs. She has pain in her arms," the victims heartbroken mother, Priscilla Mazyck, 46, told the Daily News.
