Nuns Sue Strip Club Next Door for Being Too Close to Convent

A group of nuns at a Chicago-area convent has sued a strip club next door in an attempt to shut down the neighboring establishment.

The nuns at the Missionary Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo, of Melrose Park, claim that Club Allure creates a nuisance and violates state law, WMAQ-TV reported. The club sits just 4 feet away from one of the convent’s yards.

"Operation of Club Allure since last autumn has been in open and defiant contravention of the Illinois state law that mandates a 1,000 foot buffer zone between such an adult entertainment facility and places of worship or schools," says the suit filed Friday in Cook County Circuit Court. "The Sisters' property is a place of worship which includes three chapels within the three buildings on their property immediately adjacent to the strip club."

"We're not a nuisance to them," Robert Itzkow of Club Allure told WMAQ-TV. “Nuisances cannot be perceived. They have to be real and there is no actual evidence that we are a nuisance. You'd have to have police reports to back them up and there just aren't all these police reports."

Itzkow said police have been called a total of three times since the club opened last year, adding that the club hasn’t been a bad neighbor.

"(Our dancers) aren't monsters. They're daughters; they're mothers, and some of them are Catholics too," he said.

Patricia Zito, who has lived in the area for 47 years, however, agrees with the nuns that there should be a safe, healthy environment created for area families.

"We are violated," she told the news station of the strip club. "We have a new generation of young families who should not put up with this."

The nuns’ lawsuit names the club's owners and the Village of Stone Park that granted the club’s operating license.

Twitter couldn't help but poke fun at the news of the nuns' lawsuit against the strip club.
