NRA Voter Registration Ad Has a Twist Ending (Video)

By    |   Wednesday, 23 July 2014 05:28 PM EDT

The NRA launched a 30-second voter registration ad on Wednesday as part of its Trigger The Vote campaign, and the ad has a twist.

In the commercial, a father carries a small box and warns his son: “Remember, this isn’t a toy. This is serious business.”

When the boy asks why he has it, the father explains that it’s important to protect the family and their rights and says that everyone should have one.

While viewers are clearly supposed to expect a firearm, the video ends with the father pulling a voter registration card out of the box.

The Trigger The Vote campaign started in 2009 with actor Chuck Norris as chairman.

NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam said the organization paid seven figures to place the ad on cable and online, USA Today reported.
